Music Projects Funding

SENA’s financial assistance to other educational and training programmes focus mainly on “Participation Funds” to enable needy and/or disadvantaged students to attend music education workshops and related training courses.  Some of the Participation Funds granted by SENA in recent years have gone to the Field Band Foundation [www.fieldband.org.za], the Composers’ Workshops forming part of NewMusicSA’s annual “New Music Indaba” [www.newmusicsa.org.za], the National Youth Jazz Band [www.youthjazz.com] and Big Band courses at the Standard Bank National Youth Jazz Festival, the yearly orchestral training course of the South African National Youth Orchestra Foundation, and the Biennial Conferences of the South African Association for Jazz Education (founded by SAMRO in 1992 as part of its Thirtieth Anniversary celebrations).SA Association for Jazz Education  www.saje.org.za

SENA’s grants are also supportive of the coaching of emergent young professional opera singers from historically disadvantaged communities.  Such examples include Opera Africa’s Young Artist Programme - whereby talented singers with dedication and potential to make a career in the field of opera, receive training - and the Chorus Programme, whereby young choristers receive vocal technique training in preparation for participation in a full-fledged opera www.operaafrica.co.za . Similarly, ProMusica www.promusica.co.za receives funding for training programmes.
