Photographs - we have a large collection of photographs of SA composers, exponents of South African repertoire, participants in SAMRO master classes and a comprehensive audio-visual record of candidates and prize-winners at gala evenings  of the Overseas Scholarships competitions and other celebrations in SAMRO’s illustrious history.

Audio - several unique tape recordings of performances of the works of our  composer-members, as well as CD’s of earlier recordings of Western Art repertoire exists

Huskisson Collection - Dr Yvonne Huskisson, former lecturer of music at the Witwatersrand University and author of the book “The Bantu Composers of Southern Africa”, SABC, 1969 donated her research material for the book to the SAMRO Archive. The collection comprises beautifully preserved holographs of early black choral music scores in Tonic Sol-fa, photographs of the composers as well as examples of the original handwritten correspondence between Dr Huskisson and some of our foremost black composers. The correspondence provides valuable insight into the life and times of these hereto, unsung heroes of the South African music world.

Rev. Philip Miller Donation - An extensive collection of reference books on music and ballet, several complete  opera scores and libretti, complete editions of piano works of several composers etc. was donated to SAMRO by Rev. Philip Miller.  


Authentic African Instruments - SENA commissioned a set of authentic African instruments to be manufactured specially for a performance of Alan Stephenson’s Morethetho wa Machaba symphony in 2003. These instruments are available for hire for any future performances of the work or any other work for which they may be required.
  

Paintings - There is a small collection of paintings by well-known South African artists, from different eras. The latest acquisition, a portrait of composer-member Princess Constance Buthelezi by G. Velaphi Mzimba, was commissioned by SAMRO along with an arrangement of eight of her songs by Prof Mzilikazi Khumalo and Prof Peter Klatzow.
